The old growth Catchacoma forest is unique to Canada. There is extensive research to support the value of this significant old growth eastern hemlock forest, including its capacity for sequestering carbon, as a home to at-risk species and the presence of rare ecosystems on site. This importance of this forest is recognized and has the support of the local indigenous community of Curve Lake Chief and Council. Together we believe that this special forest should be included on the Environmental Registry of Ontario's list of Protected Places.
This is a forest I have visited in all seasons over the years as it is very close to our family cottage. In addition to its importance outlined above, it is a place of refuge and nourishment for me, my family, and the many others who enter into the very special place. Please protect it!!!
