As the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks expands Ontario’s park system, we encourage consideration for allowing responsible motorized recreation. Boyne Valley Provincial Park, for example, presents an opportunity to accommodate off-road motorized activities in a managed and environmentally responsible way.
Currently, Dufferin County only permits motorized use on the rail trail. This limitation forces local riders to travel outside the area, missing opportunities to support local businesses and tourism. Expanding motorized access in provincial parks would not only provide recreational options for residents but also contribute significantly to the local economy through tourism, hospitality, and associated spending.
It is worth noting that municipalities routinely invest in infrastructure for hockey arenas, baseball diamonds, and other activities. The motorized recreation community similarly supports infrastructure, trail maintenance, and safety programs, generating millions of dollars in economic activity for the province with minimal public investment.
We hope the Ministry will consider integrating managed motorized recreation into park planning, supporting both local communities and sustainable outdoor recreation.
Thank you for your consideration.
