I am submitting feedback regarding the proposed addition to Turkey Point Provincial Park.
There is concern within the local community about this parcel becoming an area of public use. The proposed expansion includes beachfront land, which naturally increases visitor attraction—especially during shoulder and peak beach seasons when the area already experiences significant congestion. This is a small hamlet with limited infrastructure, and in many areas, there are no sidewalks at all, making increased foot and vehicle traffic a notable safety concern.
The rise in tourism and day-use visits in recent years has already placed additional pressure on the community. Despite this growth, there have been no substantial updates to street infrastructure or traffic-calming measures. The lack of features such as speed bumps, improved signage, or pedestrian pathways heightens the risk for both residents and visitors.
Before this parcel is incorporated into the park, it would be helpful for the Ministry to:
• Clarify how this beachfront parcel will be used and accessed by the public,
• Consider privacy and buffer measures to protect the surrounding residential area,
• Assess the impact of increased seasonal crowds on traffic flow and pedestrian safety,
• Review the need for infrastructure improvements—such as sidewalks, traffic calming, or roadway updates—to support safe community and visitor use.
These concerns are raised to encourage a thoughtful balance between park expansion and the unique limitations of the small community it borders.
Thank you for considering this input.
