The midtown proposal for tall towers ignores the congestion already present in the area. While access to the GO train and transit hub might be possible by walking from the proposed towers, for a great number of these potential residents, driving will also be an important way to access local shops, services, healthcare and entertainment. The roads in the area are often currently full and backed up at lights during the day. Due to natural barriers such as the river, and manmade barriers such as the rail corridor and 400 series highways, new or expanded roads cannot be added easily. A mid-rise proposal (already approved by the town) would already put a strain on the area but it could be more easily managed.
The province’s tall tower proposal should be prohibited.
