Writing to express my opposition to the Province of Ontario's proposal to merge the province’s thirty-six conservation authorities into just seven multi-regional bodies.
I am especially opposed to folding the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) into a huge multi-watershed “mega-authority” as this will invariably lead to the weakening the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan (LSPP). Lake Simcoe needs local expertise - scientists who know this watershed intimately - to deal with the worsening pressures—phosphorus pollution, rising chloride from road salt, and climate-driven flooding risks. As such, asking the Province to exclude LSRCA from the proposed consolidation framework to protect and expand local scientific capacity.
