As a former resident of Oakville and current resident of Halton region, I'm disappointed that the Province is ignoring the will of the people of Oakville. While, there should be moderate density in this area, this MZO will only make it more difficult for people to drive to transit. This will cause more people to drive to work and skip transit. It also perpetuates a flawed development model of building high density in suburban locations, relying on people commuting to a city centre no one wants to commute to anymore. Building more moderate complete communities in the suburbs, encouraging gov't employees to follow a hybrid work schedule and incentivizing private companies to do the same will allow new density to be meaningful as people can work where they live. This idea of density around commuter oriented transit hubs is antiquated as we will eventually revert back to employees working from home 2-3 days a week once the antiquated executives and politicians are no longer in charge.
