So many of this government’s solutions strip local authority and centralize power at the provincial level, which I believe is entirely unnecessary.

Increasingly, I am seeing policy proposals that focus solely on standardizing processes, regulations, and services. To me, that signals an unwillingness to assess these systems and organizations at a finer level to identify meaningful, targeted solutions.

It's a unilateral, top-down method of governing that is not respectful of your constituents' communities and needs.

I find it staggering to suggest that such diverse regions could be consolidated into broad jurisdictional areas without jeopardizing existing successes and supports. I would be very interested in seeing the business case for this approach, particularly how it weighs impacts to conservation efforts against the prospect of facilitating inappropriate development on sensitive lands.

Where has that case been made to the public? When did my MPP consult the community over this?

This perspective on government, the continued stripping away of more local input, inevitably leads to decision-making that is disconnected from community realities. As with the direction being taken on school boards, these are, in all honesty, lazy policy decisions that overlook serious consequences and fail to directly address core problems.

I want to see my government do better instead of continually taking authority, access, and supports away from communities. I want to see investment and progress when it comes to models with proven successes, not more disguised cuts and service impacts.

There are likely opportunities for efficiencies in how conservation authorities contribute to development reviews, but that work should be done without putting so much good at risk.

Do that instead, and let people like me continue to benefit from the amazing work and programs these local organizations do and provide.
