I do not support the proposed merger of conservation authorities. Hamilton and Puslinch rely on the Hamilton Conservation Authority because it understands our land, our trails, our waterways, and our community needs. These decisions need to stay local.
The Province hasn’t shown why this merger is necessary or how it would benefit the people who actually live here. HCA already delivers strong, efficient service, and merging four authorities into a single agency covering 28 municipalities risks losing the local knowledge and relationships that make conservation work effective.
I’m also concerned about the cost and disruption this merger would create without any clear plan for who pays. Bigger isn’t always better—especially when it comes to protecting natural spaces and responding to local environmental issues.
I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community, where residents, partners, and municipalities have a real voice.
