I do not support Bill 68 or the proposal to amalgamate Ontario’s 36 Conservation Authorities into just 7 regional bodies. This change risks weakening the local voices, programs, expertise, and identity that communities have relied on for decades. Conservation Authorities play an essential role in local environmental protection, flood management, education, and stewardship—work that is most effective when it is rooted in local knowledge and close relationships with the communities they serve.

Instead of restructuring these organizations into larger regional bodies, the province should focus on providing stable, adequate funding and practical tools that strengthen the work Conservation Authorities already do. Local conservation programs, partnerships, and branding should be preserved, not diluted. These organizations are vital to the health, safety, and long-term resilience of our communities, and their ability to operate effectively should be supported—not jeopardized—by provincial policy.
