Why must we consolidate all 36 local, independent conservation authorities into one? Why must the Provincial government have control over public services that were created for and by the people that live and work in those areas? Conservation authorities are so valuable because they specialize in their conservation zones, and communicate and cooperate with other conservation authorities, municipalities, and the government. There should be no reason to consolidate them other than to force them to adhere to what a board elected by the Provincial Government wants them to do, completely bypassing the original value and reason for local conservation - that the people who live and work in those regions, who are experts in the environment there, have say over their zones. If the Provincial Government wants to work with the 36 existing conservation authorities, they should reach out and build a stronger infrastructure and funding system for local conservation to continue the work they do and streamline conservation. Not completely removing their independence.
