As a member of the Owen Sound Field Naturalists, I urge the Province of Ontario not to proceed with the proposed amalgamation, which would ultimately undermine conservation authorities’ ability to protect communities from floods and natural hazards. Rather, conservation authorities should be meaningfully supported and empowered to do their jobs efficiently and effectively so that people across Ontario can continue to benefit from flood resilient communities, clean water and a healthy natural environment.
We would welcome an amalgamation of just two Conservation authorities within our watersheds, however the inclusion of further north and southern authorities does not make any sense to our geography and the efficiency of the operation of the Authorities.
We urge you to reconsider this proposal and keep our Conservation Authorities truly locally run and operated.
