I am strongly opposed to the proposed merger of the province’s 36 conservation authorities into seven large regional authorities. To me, this change represents the opposite of conservative governing which should instead encourage and support local community control. Additionally, I am unconvinced that this change will make conservation decisions more efficient.
Anyone who remembers how amalgamation has been received by municipalities both big and small in the years since it was implemented should be extremely cautious of this approach.
I urge the government to reconsider this proposal.
