I do not support a merger of the conservation authorities. I am a paying member of the HCA and support their decision with regards to this merger. I have read their reasons outlined on their website and also agree 100% with their points given. I believe that there are other reasons for this sudden want to oversee and take over decisions. Perhaps the province should work on other problems that face taxpayers instead of creating new ways to waste money on things that already work for everyone ( including taxpayers). Also, I am concerned that they do not have the tools to even help at all when it comes to water conservation in my area. HCA is doing a fine job and the province is failing on many levels.
Quick facts
Numbers as of December 1, 2025:

38 active long-term drinking water advisories on public systems on reserve in 36 communities
19 of the 38 affected systems (50%) have infrastructure that can produce clean drinking water
17 of the 38 affected systems (45%) need operational improvements before the advisory can be lifted
38 active long-term advisories affect approximately 5,789 homes and 340 community buildings.

27 of the above listed are Located in Ontario.

The fact that Collingwood just had their boil water advisory lifted shows that the provincial government can not even oversee the areas that fall under their jurisdiction when it comes to water.

I realize you will probably say this is a federal issue, but it is actually a humanitarian issue and the province clearly has some money to throw around.

Although the province has not presented dollar figures involved in the proposed merger, any or all amounts should be redistributed to one or all areas of concern listed above.

In conclusion , HCA has acted in the best interest of the watershed within their jurisdiction and I believe that it should stay that way. I drink the water they protect and do not want any governmental agencies messing that up.
