We live in a rural area along a small creek just outside of Windsor ON. Our little community, along Pike Creek, encompasses endangered turtle species, eagles, egrets, herons, turkeys, ducks, swans, frogs, owls, coyotes, the odd deer, red fox, muskrats, ferrets and other wildlife — all within kilometers of a city! Our local ‘ERCA’ has met with us to explain how our flood plains work; how the water flowing from the Mississippi affects us both to our advantage and flooding. Our ERCA has even arranged to eradicated beavers to avoid potentially damaging dams along Pike Creek!
Amalgamation of environmental services will hinder localized environmental protection and educational opportunities. It will delay ‘just-in-time’ environmental correctness AND will hinder community encouragement towards nature and the environment.
