It is extraordinary that the Midtown TOC proposal, which is so far out of alignment with Provincial goals and Oakville planning, continues to have momentum. Surely there are stakeholder relationships that are not being made known to the public? Something under the table we don’t know about?
The issues:
• With the first tower build schedule now pushed back 5 years, and occupancy a few years beyond that, the TOC is the opposite of ‘build more homes faster’.
• The TOC does not address the affordability crisis.
• With density in the extreme 11 FSI range, and limited surrounding amenities, the TOC does not meet the criteria of a complete livable community.
• Midtown is a constrained site located right in the middle of Oakville. Traffic, already a bottleneck, will become a crisis if the site is over developed.
• There has been no acknowledgement of resident and Council pushback. Stakeholder input has been virtually nonexistent. Residents are shocked and disappointed, and don’t feel they’ve been heard.
I am outraged that our Provincial government would try to force this on us! Are we facing a repeat of the Greenbelt scandal?
Back off, and approve Oakville Midtown OPA70. OPA70 has been developed following due process with extensive stakeholder engagement. It is fully compliant with Provincial requirements.
