These MZOs are unwarranted and not needed. They are a throwback to regimes where centralized Government planning, by generally anti democratic Governments, forced bad decisions made in secret down the throat of a hapless population. That is NOT the ONTARIO way yet it seems to be what is happening here. Oakville has plans in full compliance with provincial policies and proven track record of growth and housing development. The Town’s Official Plan Amendment for Midtown (OPA 70) was developed transparently, with public input and Council approval but this TOC was advanced behind closed doors under confidentiality agreements, involving a predetermined developer and with minimal, superficial, consultation ignoring well considered input . That is NOT the ONTARIO way in our democracy. It is misguided and an abuse of provincial power with disturbing overtones of the embarrassing governance mismanagement around the Greenbelt. There is no need to override and ignore well considered and professionally prepared planning regulations to achieve more housing built faster which is a commendable goal. Centralized dictatorial planning will not achieve the desired policy goal and will, as may be seen elsewhere and particularly eastern Europe, result in people warehousing and not a community of livable housing. It falls well short of what I expect from an elected Government in Ontario. The Province should not go forward with a bad product produced by a seriously flawed process. I vote NO for these MZOs.
