I oppose the proposed Minister’s Zoning Orders for Midtown Oakville. These MZOs would impose extreme and reckless density—more than double that of any comparable development in the GTA—without the infrastructure needed to support it. This level of density would overwhelm local transportation networks, including roads, transit, the GO station, and the QEW, all of which are already under significant strain. The Town’s Official Plan Amendment 70 (OPA 70) already allows densities up to 6.0 FSI, which is very high by any North American standard. The densities proposed under these MZOs are therefore unnecessary and unacceptable. Moreover, by eliminating affordable housing requirements, these MZOs prioritize maximizing developer land value over addressing housing affordability, livability, and infrastructure capacity. This proposal is not about delivering sustainable housing—it is about profit at the expense of the public interest. For these reasons, I strongly oppose the MZOs and vote NO to their approval.
