This MZO is incredibly aggressive, pushing for housing development at a rapid and unsustainable implementation rate that risks straining infrastructure on Trafalgar Road and the QEW along with undermining Oakville’s character. The people who live in Oakville enjoy the community because it has a small-town character and aesthetic, they do NOT want the town to turn into something such as downtown Mississauga. The density of the proposed development is also EXTREME in nature, as the area will end up with 125,000-200,000 or more people on its 100 hectares. This would equate to 1,250 to 2,000 people per hectare, which is more than some of the densest communities in the world. For comparison, Toronto is 44 people per hectare, and Manhattan is 280 people per hectare. The province must abandon this MZO and respect the will of the people and council of Oakville which has UNANIMOUSLY voted against this (which is incredibly rare for council to agree on something in such as fashion) and has developed its own and MUCH more sustainable plan for development in midtown.
