Where definitions have changed in respect to the creation of Bill 5-"habitat" and "harass" and the government does not need to develop recovery products- it is imperative that the Environmental Impact Study and Species at Risk study have been completed prior to this (final) decision. The Mitigation plan Searchmont sought for the snow making pond in 2019 is outdated. No conclusions should be drawn until these studies commence.
The Environmental Impact Study (EIS) & Species At Risk (SAR) study are still in progress.
These studies and their findings are supposed to guide what the impacts could/would be and how these impacts will be avoided and mitigated should Searchmont Ski Resort be approved to build and operate a wastewater treatment plant that will discharge treated effluent to the Goulais River.
The design brief/supporting documents state these studies would be updated to appendix H once available.
The EIS and SAR contain critical information that the public deserves fair opportunity to review and share thoughts on before the deadline is final.
