The Town of Oakville created a rational amendment to the official town development plan that complied with the province's density mandate. This amendment, OPA70, was developed after significant public input and fosters a continued sense of community that is part of Oakville's heritage. OPA 70 is a much better option for the mid-town lands as the envisioned family-oriented growth project includes affordable housing requirements. The housing market has definitively passed judgement on the tiny units proposed by the TOC as seen in the collapse of buyers for these unit types. Oakville needs family housing, not investor owned units. The town of Oakville has a proven track record for building a community. The proposed MZOs should not proceed. Instead OPA 70 should be the framework for mid-town development as it is a responsible, community-supported plan that is aligned with current market needs.
