I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed discharge of wastewater into the river. This action poses significant and potentially irreversible risks to the environment, public health and long term sustainability of our local ecosystem.
Rivers are complex and delicate systems that support aquatic life, wildlife habitats and downstream communities. Introducing wastewater even if it is "treated" can alter water chemistry, increase nutrient loads and introduce contaminants such as heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, micro plastics and pathogens. These pollutants can accumulate over time leading to algae blooms, reduced oxygen levels, fish kills and the perverse degradation of biodiversity.
Beyond environmental damage wastewater discharge into the river threatens public health by increasing the risk of exposure to harmful substances. Once a river is polluted, remediation is often costly, complex and not always effective.
I urge you to reject any plans that allows wastewater to be released into the river. Allowing a private enterprise to move forward with this proposal sets a dangerous precedent for the future. Protecting our waterways is not only an environmental obligation but a necessity and obligation to current and future generations.
Thank you for considering my concerns. I respectfully request that environmental protection and public health remain the highest priorities in any decision regarding this proposal.
