I have been working with the town on the Midtown Lands for years now. They have been very active to make sure what is proposed makes sense for all residents and participants, now and into the future.
Many many experienced and knowledgeable people have worked on it. Many hours spent.
The TOC proposal ignores all our great work and proposes a scheme that is heavy handed, thoughtless and irresponsible. I believe there to be NO winners.
The developers working with them have been led to believe what they are proposing at least makes financial sense, which it definitely does not, nor does it make human sense- no one wants to live in an area with that much density and little or no amenity. I believe the minister is being fed information that is untrue and in fact lies.
We want the area to be developed to add density in a neighborhood that works, that helps the GO train operations, that adds schools, parks and jobs. The TOC does none of these. It only adds towers, traffic congestion, expensive servicing. A future ghetto that would split Oakville into North and South.
I urge you to learn the facts, ask why the TOC doesn’t follow Oakville’s directions, why the TOC doesn’t look at their own lands for possible development, why they don’t see that this station is NOW the busiest of all stations except Union and needs to be considered carefully so it work better, not worse.
