I do not see any documents referring to studies done to support Category 1 designation indicating low impact for theses 38 freshwater sources or any indication of what the water will be used for.
So much water drawn from creeks, rivers and lakes has huge implications in these days of climate insecurity. Plus there is no information about the cumulative effect of water withdrawal in these watersheds that are already competing with sources. Each permit needs to be looked at independently in the communities where the water is being withdrawn.
Look at what is happening now in the Region of Waterloo, where all future development is paused due to lack to future water. The drought last summer in this area and the lack of knowledge about the cumulative effect of water withdrawal in the Region has exacerbated the problem and put at risk the water permits that are already granted. The Province needs more information before granting water permits.
As well, using a public resource for private profit needs to have a more thorough review. I do not agree with these bulk water permits before more information is revealed ie. what is the purpose of the withdrawing the water?
