We have great concerns about Stubbes plant and the information we have received about changes to forms now allowing concrete to be crushed/recycled. This releases silica dust into the air and silica dust is a known carcinogenic material. We are a young family on the edge of New Durham, just down the road from Stubbes. When we were informed of this change by a neighbour, we were quite upset. We have a young toddler who loves being outside and we don't appreciate more toxins going into the air we breathe than are already there. Especially if these toxins could potentially lead to cancers. I have a family history of cancer, in particular my grandma and her siblings. They grew up near factories/industry and 4 of her siblings died from all different cancers. So this situation is especially alarming for me and my family. There must be another solution other than crushing/recycling concrete in the middle of a community full of young families and older couples who do NOT want more toxins in the air that we breathe.
