Speaking on behalf of a First Nations Community. Changes to the Stage 1 process present concerns for the process of consultation between proponents and Indigenous communities.
It is a concern that through fast-tracking stage 1 and 2 processes, there will be a reduced timeframe for Indigenous communities to input on a projects location in relation to traditional territory, or any impacts on areas of concern.
Already, there is limited time for which a proponent presents a project, so that the appropriate information and notifications can be sent out to Chief, Counsel and the community for input.
