I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposed amendments to Bill 98.
While I understand the intent to streamline and standardize construction requirements at the provincial level, I am concerned about the potential unintended consequence of reducing the protection of green spaces.
With the removal or limitation of municipal authority to impose environmental and sustainable design standards under the Building Code Act, 1992, the Planning Act, and the City of Toronto Act, 2006, it is not clear which level of government will ensure the preservation of parks and urban green areas.
In particular, I am concerned that without clear safeguards, existing green spaces could become more vulnerable to redevelopment.
I would ask the government to clarify how the protection of parks and green spaces will be maintained under the proposed framework, and whether specific measures will be introduced to prevent their gradual loss.
