I oppose the proposed by-law. It does not make sense to upload the responsibility of ensuring health and safety to the ministerial level when provincial policies exist to guarantee the wellbeing of the public (and one would be hard-pressed to find planning policies that do not boil down to public health and safety). There is also potential to drive a regulatory race-to-the-bottom between municipalities if large corporations bent on violating provincial policies went from location to location seeking open-for-business exceptions harmful to the public.
