Hello sir or ma'am, I am a student that studies at Central Peel Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario. Canada as a country has big hopes in expanding our greenbelt. We have many plans for the future. I have a vision for seeing me getting older as the greenbelt expands and having my kids being able to see the nature inside of the greenbelt. However, I also have concerns about the way the extension is happening.

I disagree with the fact that the greenbelt or the GGH should not increase onto sides of the cities due to the reason that houses need to be built and also the growth of not only Canada, but all of Ontario is going to increase. If we expand the greenbelt or the GGH onto a part of a major city then many people are going to suffer and move out of Ontario due to the reason of shortage of houses. So the greenbelt or the GGH should only be increased onto farmlands so they can be protected and not be sold for wealth and be used to make other houses. Also, the policies for making houses 40 hectares outside the municipal area should be withdrawn regardless we don’t need that much land. Because as time passes we are going to need more and more land. That is why such policies should be withdrawn. If possible please discuss and remove such policies for the greater good of the country and its people.

Even though the increase of the GGH will help environmentally, socially, economically, and politically, they need to reconsider many other factors that can lead the country and its people into problems. The expansion of the GGH will bring more nature and more animals towards the and forms. Animals will be able to increase their population without having to breed or do other needs for them. Farmers will be able to produce and harvest more agriculture from the land. Also, the food grown in the greenbelt is travelled 10 times less than the average travel distance for the food on our plates, which is a great benefit for the environment. Also, with all this in mind, it will have a positive image in people’s minds. With all that, the economy will benefit due to the reason that the government will have to pay a minimum for travel distance for the food, and as the positive things pile up, the country will be better recognized for in the world, which may influence other provinces to start a greenbelt, making our country further stronger and stronger in all ways.

The country can benefit a lot from this project but making exceptions can make this place a lot more useful. Withdrawing some ideas and policies may influence such. Ontario people need to have houses for the coming generations. If we decrease land amounts for building then later, many years from now there will be many problems. Lets decided to make Ontario a better place so when the other side in our chairs they can choose the right decision.
