It sounds like 'focusing' means reducing their ability to regulate development. Please ensure that they are still an important part of the environmental assessment and permitting process for new developments that will impact wetlands, waterways and flood plains. Allowing developers to skip the assessment and permitting process will only negatively impact lands and waterways.
Their duty is not just to take care of conservation areas but to provide important protection and stewardship of lands that are at risk- particularly in SW Ontario. Reducing their mandates to conservation areas will reduce their ability to oversee their watersheds effectively.
Focusing on climate change and the challenges that it brings is an important step forward.
