We have lived in this neighbourhood since 1971. We realize that the city designated the Yonge & Eglington area for intensification. This has gotten way out of hand thanks to the OMB being in favour of the developers,, and the greed of the developers. It used to be an area where we could walk to our local stores; ,the barber, the vet, the dental offices, car repair centers, small convience stores, restaurants. If there was space for these business', they could not afford the rents. Thiese business are the important way a neighbourhood functions and is cohesive. Our children went to the local school - Oriole Park School - but the children moving into the area cannot now find space in their local school and they have had to send the Grade 6 class to Hodgson school at Mount Pleasant. This the stress of having huge condo buildings surrounding us on all sides and on all streets - Yonge St and the side streets as well. It is like living in a war zone. Also, many of the 90 year old homes have been torn down. Change happens. But in each case the new home owner, or developer, asks for a "minor variance". Probably 90% of the variances are not "minor" at all. So the neighbours come together to try to keep things under some control, but the OMB and the city almost always vote in favour of the demands. So every street in our neighbourhood is always under attack, and then there is the huge increase in the traffic on our local streets due to the construction of the TTC, the condos, and the home building work. These communters are only "passing through" and have no respect for the stop signs or children. Our streets are not able to safely stand much more. So, take your intensification, and give it a break until you get it figured out how to safely supply water, sewage, electricity, Fire Dept, police, social services (especially for our aging population) and medical support. And the parking......build a public parking garage so we can shop locally. It's a huge problem which we hope you can finally recognize the destruction of our neighbourhood and our way of life.
