It is gratifying to see an integrated long term vision for Toronto’s downtown core. As a resident of the Toronto core and a vehicle driver as well as a pedestrian. . I support the prioritizing of roads for pedestrians, cyclists and small cars and service vehicles.I support needed infrastructure both new and upgraded as recommended on the TOcore website. Also, I support efforts towards 0 emission architecture but deep water cooling should not cause negative ecosystem effects on Lake Ontario. As a city dweller I know how important public green space is to the livability of the city and have seen how the proximity of such space is welcomed by out of town visitors. Increased set back requirements and attention to the negative effects of shading by tall structures will not only increase the livability of the city but will help traffic during construction by getting construction vehicles and material off streets. They reduce sight lines for both drivers and pedestrians and lead to greater danger when it is necessary to cross in the middle of a street rather than at a cross walk. I also recommend enforced bylaws for construction noise in settled and mixed use areas. ThIs is not only a potential health hazard but it reduces pedestrian traffic and hence hurts business which is already jeopardized by construction.
