Information is required to be registered and maintained in the Environmental Site Registry for storm water pond maintenance, if more than 1000m3 of excess soil is generated. The pond maintenance activity itself is exempt from an ESMP. However, other municipal activities generating excess soil in the form of sediment are not commented upon (i.e. removal of sediment from river mouths and harbours to allow safe navigation). Consideration should be given in handling other municipal sediment removal activities in a similar fashion to that of storm water pond maintenance.
