Our company currently employs in excess of 60 operators and haul drivers as well as another 10 mechanics and welders in our shops. We also employ several administrative people in our offices. Our workplaces are a significant employer in the logging industry in northwestern Ontario.
We feel that its only reasonable to amend O.Reg.242/08 to extend the current regulation for two years or longer to allow MNRF to properly develop a long-term approach to managing all species including caribou.
To not follow through with the amendment prior to July 1 2018 could put our jobs at risk. If wood supplies are reduced the impact on our business and employees could be disastrous.
Please take the time to make a long-term strategy that includes the needs of northern communities as well as the endangered species. Our livelihoods and communities we live in deserve the time to allow MNRF and government to consider the impacts of these decisions.
