I am disappointed in these changes. Our ESA act was at it's strongest in the version released in 2007. We must go back to that version and make it even stronger.
No more exceptions, no delays in the existing schedule. As soon as a species is listed, automatic protections apply.
COSSARO MUST remain a science based and led committee. No changes. We must not politicize our species or the Act itself.
The Ministry must not be able to interfere with the listings, not be able to apply exceptions and must not delay the process in anyway.
I strongly urge the Ford government to keep the ESA as is and consult with science based experts to strengthen the Act.
