It is in my public opinion, that this motion is a big step backwards by the province of Ontario. By exempting the logging industry from Ontario’s Endangered Species at Risk Act until at least 2020, the already threatened caribou is at risk of losing the vast expanses of forest they need to survive. The indigenous community is opposed to this action as it would threaten one of their food sources. If the province is to enact a proper effort in the task of sustaining an already threatened species, then it is in their best interest not to add exemptions. Year over year growth in the logging industry is unsustainable as although trees are renewable, the fauna that occupy the forests are not renewable to the same degree. If the province is interested in preserving a shred of what we have today then an exemption should not be made
