I live on Bay Rd, a few km from the proposed site and am very worried about the accumulated air pollution from two large industries so close to my home and the population of l'Orignal and Hawkesbury and all other towns in the vicinity including in the province of Quebec which is right accross the ottawa river. It is unthinkable that any level of government which is there to protect its residents would accept to put such an industry which has a track record of being one of the most heavy air polluters globally, in such close vicinity to a village. This cement plant seems to go against the provincial and federal governments promises to do something about pollution and global warming through the reduction of green house gas emmissions. Are the relatively few jobs which will be created by this cement plant be worth the enourmous amount of green house gas that will be released in the atmosphere. I understand the need to create jobs, but shouldn't we be trying to find better alternatives and changing construction approaches rather than continuing in the same pattern that has caused the current global warming. In addition to gereen house gas emissions, i am very concerned about the significant dust emissions from the production and distribution of cement. News reports i have read from other towns discuss the significant amount of dust produced by cement plants which often coat vehicles and home windows and tose are only the dust particles large enough to be seen it is clear that some particles smaller than these will be emitted. What will be the impact on our health from these emissions. We will be breathing these emissions for the rest of our lives ? And drinking these emissions as well as dust particles will fall in the ottawa river and we have personal wells and municipal water plants that are taking water directly from the river. I hope you will consider my concerns relating to this. I believe that the negative long term environmental and health impacts of this cement plant far outweigh the few short term economic impact. If tou do accept their plan, i hope that you do ao conditional on them reducing their expected emiasions even more by burning cleaner fuel than petcoke, storing carbon emissions or other means. Please also consider the following: Are you considering that the cement industry is one of the top five air polluters in the north america? Are you considering the health impact that the air and water pollution will have on the population surrounding the plant and the icreased medical costs and strain on the health care system? Are you considering the cumulative air impact of having two large emitters next to one another?
