As a bear hunter I welcome the shorter distance I will need to carry bait to my site although I think 30 meters may be a little close to a road.
I'm thinking maybe 100 m would be better, we don't want the non hunting public to see a lot of bears close to the road.
Also I hear some people saying ( including some hunters ) baiting should not be allowed, In the spring season I think baiting should be mandatory for bear hunting as it gives the hunter time to watch the bears longer to be sure there is no cubs with the sows and this would prevent orphaning cubs.
I have watched a lot of bears come into my bait and the small cubs are seldom more than a few yards behind the sow.
If you are just out walking and see a bear you need to shoot fast or it will be gone and you wont have time to look for cubs.
