This is a comment about the proposed notification process.
The Bill should require newspapers to make these notices available in their online editions and/or require municipalities to publish them on their websites under a heading that would be consistent across all municipalities. Having the same, consistent, place to look for heritage information on every municipal website would greatly reduce citizens' "surprises" when they buy a new property.
Bill 108 does nothing to improve public awareness of heritage. It continues to rely on an antiquated, ineffective way of notifying people about proposed heritage conservation measures. In a time when few people subscribe to or read a print newspaper, it continues to call for notice to be "published in a newspaper of general circulation in a municipality."
