The Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) is responsible for the creation and maintenance of approximately 1400 km of hiking trails along the Niagara Escarpment in Southern Ontario. With 10,000 members and an estimated 400,000 trail users per year we are very concerned about the impact of this proposed regulation change in relation to the safety of our trail users. The Bruce Trail crosses a variety of public and private land and we feel that by decreasing the distance that bait stations must be located in relation to trails, trail users could be seriously hurt or even killed due to the discharge of firearms. This proposal seems inconsistent with any concern for public safety and the BTC firmly opposes it.
