I am in agreement with the proposal to reduce the minimum distance requirement for placement of bait from rights of way for public vehicular traffic and marked and maintained recreational trails for black bear hunting from 200 metres to 30 metres.
The 200 metres was unnecessary and severe limitation on the ability of BMA holders to provide an equal opportunity hunt for those with limited mobility.
The 200 metres was also a real safety issue as most hunters stay in their stand until the end of shooting hours, which means they would have to travel that distance with firearms encased and limited lighting in an area set up to attract bear.
The 200 metres also placed an unnecessary burden on the outfitters, carrying the bait and retrieving animals once taken.
