I would live to express extreme concern over the reduced minimum distance between baiting and recreational trails.
I had the misfortunate of renting out my house a few years ago to a man who hunted bears. After he stopped renting, I was informed that he had been illegally baiting bears in our backyard. He put food in a large drum about 150' from my home. I had two houses on either side of me about 300' away and they were not notified.
The following summer I consistently had nuisance bears up on my deck, right at my back door and sniffing the area where the baiting bin was located. When I went outside to garden, I had to keep my bear spray close at hand.
The thought of reducing the minimum distance to recreational trails is very irresponsible. In order to protect both the people and bears, if anything, the minimum distance should be increased, not decreased.
