This should not be allowed to happen. As a hiker, and a wildlife lover, it makes me extremely disappointed to read this proposal. Firstly, I do not agree with baiting at all, in my opinion baiting is not sportsmanlike, and should not be considered hunting. Allowing baiting closet to pathways and roads will only encourage more human bear interactions and will not be in the Bears or humans best interest. Also, it scares me walking in areas where the hunters are so close to the trails. Some do not have any respect for the land or the animals, and seem to be quite wreckless. I live right on the border of the QE II provincial park. There are bait stations near our house. Actually one was illegally placed on our property. hunters also illegally took down our No hunting signs I had nailed to trees, littered on private property and trespassed and shot at and destroyed private property. They constantly throw garbage. They have no respect. The bait station near us is already too close to the public road I feel. It’s an eye sore, they leave all sorts of coloured tarps, plastic bins, throw beer cans, water bottles, cigarette pacakages and other garbage. Nobody in this area wants this here. The MNR should be looking out for the best interests of wildlife not the hunters.
