Howey Bay Resort Ltd. in Red Lake ON is totally in agreement with the reduction from 200 m to 30 m for the following reasons:
1. Time - The reduction allows outfitters the ability to feasibly run a bear hunt. It is not possible to run a bear hunt when the outfitter has to haul all of the bait and supplies into the bush 200 m and out 200m which results in walking 400m to each bait. At 400m for each bait it is not possible for members of our industry to have the time to run a hunt, but at 60m per bait it provides the outfitter time to reasonably run a bear hunt.
2. Safety - Members of our industry are concerned about safety. Safety of themselves and safety of their hunters and safety of the public is foremost in everyone's mind. With a 30m buffer from the road to the bait both the outfitter and the hunter can be diligent about the direction that hunters are shooting and know that they will be shooting in a safe direction.
