Comment
Most of the below comments are specifically related to New Wasaga Beach area.
Permitted uses and activities: I still do not understand how Ontario can turn the beach area back into a natural habitat for animals, however will prohibit and enforce no dogs on the beach.
Boundary considerations: Deletion of this parcel of property will allow the Town to maintain the beach and allow it to become the family oriented beach it was before. Somehow 5 years ago it was decided to stop maintenance of this beach area and allow it to turn back to nature. For at least 30 years prior to that time it was maintained as a family beach area. Allowing it to turn back into the family beach area will benefit not only residents but tourists.
New Options for Consideration:
Overnight accommodation:
Wasaga Beach Provincial park should provide overnight accommodation should space allow along the River. I believe it will contribute to the local tourism and economic development.
Park Classification:
Ontario Parks should retain Wasaga Beach as a recreational classification. The current use, and hopefully future use of Wasaga Beach is aligned with the definition of a recreational class provincial park, the only reason it could be considered "Natural Environment" class is due to the maintenance changes occurring over the past 5 years
Beach access paths:
Retain the same number of access paths. If reduced people will just continue to make their own. Why try to spend money to enforce something that will be impossible to enforce.
Rename the beach areas:
Leave beach areas named the same rather than spending money on new signage and maps etc.
Further comments:
Additional trash facilities are required at New Wasaga Beach. Currently there are not enough trash/recycling cans located along the beach. When the raking of the beach stopped to allow for birds (which aren't there btw) trash and natural debris started piling up in some areas. If the need is to maintain some of the beach for the non-existant birds, at least designate half of the beach for recreational use, i.e. half nearest to the water and have that portion raked for cleanliness purposes.
Now that both water and sewers are available at the beach area some consideration to plumbed bathroom facilities should be looked at rather than spending funding to continue to empty the outhouses regularly.
