The posting also proposes to form an expert panel which includes representatives from Northern Communities, First Nati Section 55 Regulation for Forestry. For the past decade, the implementation of the ESA for forestry has been a challenging issue for Ontario and forest management. The act presents a serious risk of unintended consequences if implemented without proper regard for the impacts on the management of other wildlife species, forest diversity and the social and economic benefits realized from the forest industry in Ontario. The expiry of the current Section 55 Regulation without due consideration, will cause numerous negative impacts to communities, First Nations and the forest industry in Ontario, as well as the many individuals employed in this field directly and indirectly. Forest management activities in Ontario are currently guided and directed by a comprehensive and robust planning process that requires consideration of an overall balance of ecological biodiversity and sustainability. The adaptive management approach ensures that as new science becomes available it is incorporated into forest management plans and activities.
