I am very disturbed that the Ontario Government plans to change the Provincial Policy statement to erode protections for wetlands, habitats, biodiversity and to increase climate change in Ontario. Southern Ontario will only remain a healthy place for children to grow up if there is an opportunity children to eat locally grown food, drink clean water and enjoy the Biodiversity, that the conjunction of three biomes in this region provides.
In particular I would ask the government to do the following:
• Remove section 2.5.2.2 which would allow aggregates extraction to trump protections for significant wetlands, woodlands and wildlife (including species at risk) habitat.
• Retain existing requirements for compact development, efficient use of infrastructure and policies to achieve intensification and redevelopment targets (sections 1.1.3.6, 1.1.3.7 a and b, and 1.6.7.2).
Any amendments to the PPS should enhance protection for Biodiversity and work towards preventing climate change
