The status of the Old Growth Red Pine forest in this area should not be left open to debate, it should be designated as a Park, connected to the existing system that exists North and South of Wolf Lake. This area represents the largest remaining contiguous Red pine stand left in North America. The true sense of awe and appreciation for these towering trees, some over 250 years old, can only be felt in person, and a dollar value is simply not an adequate representation of the impact this forest has on its visitors.
We have seen the well documented pile of garbage the drilling team left last time they worked in the area, and this disrespect for the land and water was not appreciated by those who frequent Wolf Lake to hike, paddle, swim, and enjoy the natural landscape.
It's time the Government buys back the mining leases and makes good on it's promise to turn the area into Park for future generations to enjoy as much as we have. This is a cultural and ecological treasure, one that we can not afford to lose.
