Wolf Lake once supported a varied and healthy fish population. Acid rains took the pH level so low that not much of anything lived in its waters for many years. Now, the pH has recovered and the fish have returned…bass, trout, whitefish and perch.
Any work to be done in the vicinity of the lake must take ever stronger precautions to keep the water clean. How will the cooling water from the drills be filtered before it runs back to the lake?

The trail referred to in the application originated in the mid-1990s. Conditions were put on the construction and decommissioning that were never monitored or completed. The rough trail is sometimes used by ATVs, causing ever more erosion. Instead of widening and reusing this trail, it should be restored to a forested condition. This is necessary to stop the erosion.
An existing trail goes right to the shore at the south-west bay of Wolf Lake. It is only a half kilometre from there to the proposed drilling site. With winter-only operations, this access route would be both easier to use, and less damaging to the landscape.

Others have noted the need to clean up the messes left behind by past exploration events. A lack of oversight and monitoring by MNR and MNDM allowed this to occur. If this drilling program in permitted, it must be accompanied by compliance monitoring. Both Flag and Inventus have stretched the rules in previous exploration activities. This must not be allowed to recur.

The permit refers to access by snowmachine. Terms of the permit must include a limit on the timing. January and February would be ideal, as the ice will be good for crossing the short distance on the water. If operations are required at other times of the year, a new application must be submitted.

No one is surprised at the outpouring of public concern relating to this application. Every care must be taken here, as well as nearby areas that Flag and Inventus plan to work.
