I think this moratorium should be extended indefinitely.
Bottled water companies extract billions of litres of fresh water from Ontario, paying close to nothing while making billions of dollars for their private investors. These companies add no value to the resources they extract, their only contribution is storing it in extremely wasteful plastic bottles.
Fresh water is an extremely valuable resource, and it's value will only increase with growing populations and the growing effects of climate change in the near and distant future. Allowing corporations to indiscriminately extract unlimited amounts of this precious resource while giving nothing back to Ontario would be an absolute tragedy. As it is, Ontario gains nothing from allowing these companies to take our water, which means we would lose nothing by stopping them from doing so.
