The proposed changes to the 63/09 Pesticide Regulation have been well received in the golf industry. The change being praised the most is the acknowledgment that the public meetings have been poorly attended, or not attended at all. These meetings have been scheduled for residents in the surrounding area to the golf facilities, to talk about the uses of pesticides, and answer any of the questions or potential concerns they might have. But, these meetings have been abused for years as an open door for these residents to voice their displeasure with other "issues", not pertaining to the use of pesticides. With this open door policy, it has been an invitation for confrontational discussions, or discussions that have no business being brought to the attention of the representing turf managers. If the proposed changes go through, there won't be any need to worry about having these confrontational talks with residents, as the meetings will cease to exist, and only the serious inquirers will put forth the effort to contact the turf managers, looking for an educated answer to their questions.
